Professional Development for Speakers

The core training for professional speakers (and those who aspire to speak professionally) is the Professional Development Series. NSANZ run the complete series each year in Auckland and Christchurch.

There are eight sessions (of three hours), each covering one of the professional speaking core competencies.

Every member is encouraged to complete the series at least once, with many members returning year after year to refresh their learning and network with their peers.

The Eight Core competencies for professional speaking

Each Professional Development Series three-hour session covers one of the Core competencies of professional speaking which are:

Professional Awareness - knowing the state-of-the-art in speaking and understanding the industry and the profession.   
 
Professional Relationships
- knowing the interests, needs and issues in dealing with your client’s colleagues and co-workers in the speaking profession. 
 
Topic Development
- knowing the best topics for, as well as researching and developing the content of, your presentations/performance and the skills needed to develop them.  

Platform Mechanics - knowing and mastering the set-up/stage skills will help you create the setting for a successful presentation performance. 
             
Presenting and Performing - knowing how best to present and perform to communicate with the audience.  
                                                                                           
Authorship and Product Development - knowing how you can extend yourself beyond the platform by authorship and product development. 
 
Sales and Marketing - knowing how to generate engagements and expand your impact within chosen markets.  
                                                         
Managing the Business - knowing how to deal with the administrative side of the speaking business: contracts, agreements, systems and money.
