Auckland Chapter Newsletter - June 2008

A word from our President

Have you ever sat at the back of a conference and graded the speaker?
As a trainer, I have had to try really hard to NOT compare and find flaws in others. As a speaker, in my opinion, its just as important to remember one small but important point taught to me years ago by my friend and NSA member Amanda Fleming. Each of us is doing the best we can with the resources we have – at any given moment. This means that the speakers who don't meet your expectations as audience may not yet be equipped with some skills and/or may not realise what they don't know.

I have listened to a small number of speakers who don't care if they are magical, inspiring, informative, entertaining or whatever and notice its their ego they are uplifting rather than the audience. But these are very few. The rest of us are on a learning journey where the best teachers are the people in the audience – and our colleagues in NSA.

Respect for each other is a free and unending resource and I am glad that I see that quality exercised often at NSA meetings and seminars. Its one of the reasons I continue to stay a member and be proud of our association. While our audiences do expect professionalism, quality, added value, inspiration, learning and empowerment, if we do give the best we can - at any given moment, we are an inspiring role model for our audience – and our colleagues in NSA.

This Chapter meeting is our AGM and Passion Cafe – a chance to spend quality structured time with our friends and colleagues at NSA. An opportunity to reflect on what our passion is about, how we make a difference and what form our business will take in the future. I strongly urge you to attend. Quality networking at its best.

We have received fabulous feedback from the Professional Development Series where emerging and experienced speakers attend because they are serious about their development. You can join in at any time and fast track your knowledge.

This is my last Presidents word so its time to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone in this Chapter for their support, hard work and commitment to the Association. I have been proud to call myself your President.

See you on the platforms of the world.

Warm regards

Linda
