NSANZ Auckland Chapter Newsletter - November 09
A word from our President
Greetings to All Members
and Visitors,
What an inspiring, uplifting,
and entertaining night we had at our last meeting on the 27th
of October with David Nottage as our guest speaker and Linda
McDermott as our MC.
We were all laughing as we relived David's hilarious, first and
only sky-diving experience as he told us and acted out the
story. He also gave us some great practical tips on how to
be quicker on our feet with improvisational speaking. Thanks
also to Sohana Nanoo, Craig Robertson, and Jean Caldwell for
their organisational efforts to make the meeting a great success.
Judith Paterson, Bruce Hopkins, and Craig
Sharman have been working together to organise our Annual Awards and Christmas
Dinner coming up on the 11th of December. With Greg Ward as our MC/ Entertainer
and with the fabulous food and atmosphere, we'll have a great environment
to enjoy socialising and celebrating. This year they've also organised a
silent auction, so if you have any products or services you'd like to contribute,
please contact Craig Sharman on 09 418 1969 or cafelogos@ihug.co.nz Also,
remember to buy your ticket by the 30 November.
In response to members' requests for more
'air time' and feedback, we have organised three showcases next year preceding
our regular meetings in February, April and June.Speakers at all levels of
experience are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to try out
their material and receive valuable feedback. Five participants will speak
for up to eight minutes
each and receive written feedback from the audience as well as a couple of
minutes of verbal feedback from two evaluators. Bruce Hopkins will MC our first
showcase in February and is collecting names of those interested in participating,
so if you'd like to sign up to speak, email him to register rb_hopkins@xtra.co.nz -
just two places left FYI for the February showcase.
We are in for a special treat at our upcoming
meeting on the 24th November. All five of our Certified Speaking Professionals
will engage in a lively panel discussion filled with their wisdom, experience
and practical tips. Also, John Shackleton will speak to us about how to take
better advantage of the newest technology to make our presentations be more
engaging and entertaining.
Two pre-meeting events will also take place:
We have special guests from Singapore, Margaret Loh, the Founding President
of the Asia Professional Speakers Singapore (APSS) and Tim Wade, the President
Elect for 2010-2011. They will come early to meet with interested members
who might want to know what the speaking industry is like in Singapore. They’ll
be in our meeting room at 6pm, followed by our National President, Hannah
Samuel, who will at 6:45pm enlighten us on the the new accreditation changes
which will be taking place in July 2010. These changes will raise up our
standards and align our terminology with the international speakers’ community.
Hope to see you there!
Thank you to all
of you talented speakers who applied for Awards this year. The awards applications
are being organised now to be sent to judges this week. Let's look forward
to celebrating all our successes over the past year as well as the special
success of our .award winners' on the 11th of December.
Here's to an abundant summer season on its way...and to a brilliant year of
inspiration ahead in 2010.
Here's to all of us playing our part in igniting the world!
Warm Regards,
Sally Mabelle

November Chapter Meeting - Tuesday
24th November
This month’s meeting is a rare opportunity
to be exposed to FIVE AWESOME CSPs!
In our first session, we have John
Shackleton who will be delivering a keynote entitled: “Make
your keynote entertaining by using modern media to WOW your audience!”
As
well as being a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) and a successful
speaker and author, John also holds boot camps for speakers. We’re
privileged that he will be sharing his knowledge with us. John’s
passionate about speakers taking their craft to a new level by
having a more entertaining presentation and will provide some very
useful tips to avoid sending our audiences to sleep with stale
material and boring visuals!
Over the last 20 years John has spoken to most of
the world’s major Pharmaceutical and Insurance companies,
many of Europe's top Banks and Finance Houses and the majority
of the top Real Estate companies throughout Australasia. His recent
clients include: Air New Zealand, Coca-Cola, Hyundai, Honda, Renault,
Westpac Bank, ANZ Bank, National Bank, Tower Insurance, AMP, AXA,
Canon, Sharp, Sony, Kodak, Avon, Burger King, Subway etc. He speaks
in Australia, New Zealand and throughout Asia to a wide variety
of audiences of mainly Salespeople, Managers and Business owners
but in the last two years he also spoke to Vets, Tax Specialists,
Bankers, Farmers, Recruitment Consultants, Doctors, Entrepreneurs,
Engineers, Nurses, Mortgage Advisors, Dieticians, Accountants,
Lawyers, Builders, Secretaries, Teachers and Schoolchildren. As
a keynote speaker and workshop leader John won the 2004 Inspirational
Speaker of the Year, the 2005 Business Person of the Year and the
prestigious 2007 Speaker of the Year award as voted for by NSANZ (the
National Speakers Association of New Zealand) Auckland Chapter.
In the second session, all five CSPs - Ann
Andrews, Allie
Mooney, Robyn
Pearce, Debbie
Mayo-Smith and John
Shackleton – will participate in a panel discussion.
It will be a fantastic learning opportunity and also your personal
