Reason for Awards:

  • To acknowledge speakers in our Chapters.
  • To encourage speakers to aspire to being the best among their peers.
  • To lift the standard of professionalism and ethics in the speaking industry by recognizing those who champion them.
  • To recognize members who contribute positively to the profile of NSA internally and publicly.
  • To create possibilities for members to be noticed.
  • To encourage speakers to keep growing.
  • To acknowledge the very different types of speaking professional.
  • To create and differentiate between chapter awards and national awards. It does mean that as speakers progress, there will be less awards for them to apply for, but there are different ways for senior people to be acknowledged and recognised.  The accreditation process is a key component of progression – and CSP virtually acknowledges all the awards rolled up within the CSP designation. Senior people are also encouraged to take on senior roles on the chapter and national committees.

General Criteria:

  • Submissions are open to members of NSANZ in the year 1 Jan 2011 to 31st December 2011 (must be a fully paid up member for the last 12 months prior to awarding of awards) for all awards except Bright Star and President’s Awards.
  • All candidates must provide five testimonials with contact details for three of those testimonials for contact by the judges.
  • The onus of proof of worthiness is on the applicant. Applicants are encouraged to provide evidence of ability and skill levels by submitting additional items such as video footage, audio, links etc.  Please note that all such materials will not be returned.
  • The President’s Award is given by the Immediate Past President in recognition of support for NSANZ and therefore no submissions are necessary.
  • Submissions for Chapter Awards can either be by:
    • Self nomination. A second will be required
    • Or by nomination by Chapter NSANZ member/s. If nominated by others, the nominee must provide the necessary materials themselves.
  • Nominees must be current Chapter NSANZ members.
  • Each person can enter only two awards per year.
  • Applicants can only win an award once at Chapter level.
  • It is not necessary to win an award at Chapter level to enter for an award at National level. However, the winner of a regional award will automatically be considered for the national award of the same category in the same year without a separate application being required by the regional category award winner.
  • A speaker can only win a National Award of the same category once every 3 years – there will be a two year stand down period
  • All National Awards are by nomination only and cannot be self nominated. Where a regional award is matched by a National Award of the same name, winning at chapter level creates an automatic nomination for the national award
  • Each award has specific criteria and in addition the general criteria for all awards include consideration of nominee’s contribution to NSANZ,
  • to the speaking industry, practice of NSANZ principles and ethics and submissions made on time.
  • The Business Person of the Year and the MC of the Year awards are not held at a Chapter level therefore entrants must be nominated by current NSANZ members to enter.
  • Submissions must be of a professional standard, as if nominees were preparing a proposal for a key client.  NB: the quality of the application will have a significant bearing on the judging outcome.
  • Information is preferred electronically but hard copies will be accepted and must be sent in duplicate for the two judges:
    • One page overview of business focus with comments relating to the specific award.
    • Testimonials from people who have given their permission to receive a phone call.
    • Links to relevant areas on nominee’s website for information.
    • Links to video material (or where it is in DVD form to send 2 copies separately by mail).
    • Video material must be within the past 12 months.
    • One full length demo video to be supplied; unedited; from start to finish of a presentation and be at least 20 minutes duration. If the presentation is more than two hours duration then a continuous two hours can be selected by the entrant.
    • Recognition of CSP, Professional Member, Member or other levels of achievement within NSANZ and internationally.
    • Comments on nominee’s contribution to NSANZ and internationally.
    • Comments on why the nominee should receive this award (this can also include comments from others but the nominee must write their own comments.
    • Submissions must be sent to the correct President to arrive by the due date as set by the Chapter President and by the National President.  Any submissions received after that date will not be valid.
    • All award winners must have had a minimum of 5 engagements outside of NSANZ in the last 12 months with at least 3 of those paid and testimonials from at least 5 clients.
  • Submissions must follow the criteria for nominated award and provide all the necessary information for judges, otherwise they may be deemed invalid
  • Judges may choose to not award in a category if they feel the criteria have not been met.
  • The identity of judges will be confidential until the night of the Awards to maintain their impartiality and independence.
  • Each award (excluding Presidents Award) will be judged by two judges, recognized in that field and ratified by the current Chapter President.
  • The decision of the judges is binding and no discussions will be entered into by nominees or other members of NSANZ.
  • Please note that books and/or DVDs will not be returned. We recommend that only copies be sent as a result and NSANZ accepts no liability for non-return, loss or damage to any materials presented as part of an application.

THE TE KAHURANGI AWARD

The winner of this award is given to a worthy recipient and cannot be applied for. It is not intended for award every year but only when such a worthy recipient is found. This is our highest award and constitutes our ‘hall of fame’ and as such should be treated with due reverence.

One definition of Te Kahurangi is ‘Treasure’ and another is ‘Precious Jewel’. We believe that this award is the precious jewel of National Speakers Association New Zealand which we know the recipient will treasure for many years to come. This award epitomizes everything we hold dear in NSANZ. It is our supreme Award and our family crown.

The award is decided by the current National President, Immediate Past National President and one other appointed by these two for the role.

It recognises:

  • A speaker of the highest standing who is a recognised master of their craft.
  • Superb service over a number of years to speaking and the NSANZ.
  • Noted for ‘walking the talk’ and living the ethics and standards of NSANZ.
