How To Get Accreditation

Getting Accreditation is easy! Just follow these three easy steps...

ASM - Accredited Speaking Member, Application Conditions

  • Must be a member of NSANZ at time of application;
  • Must have attended at least three Chapter meetings either as a member or visitor during the 12 months prior to application;
  • Must have made 12 presentations to different audiences (prior to application) for which payment or remuneration was received for 1 presentation at a minimum of $250. (There is no time limit on when these presentations were made).
  • An evidentiary or testimonial letter, preferably on organisation letterhead is required for each presentation;
  • A full length audio or video tape of one of the 12 presentations must accompany the application.
  • An application fee of $30 must accompany the application.

A member who is employed by an organisation and, who, in the course of their employment, makes presentations to different audiences, may apply for ASM accreditation. University lecturers, sales presenters, managers etc. who make presentations to different audiences are examples.

This provision applies only to the ASM designation. APS and CSP applicants must derive the bulk of their income from professional presentations they make as themselves or under the auspices of their own company or trading name.

Applications for ASM must be lodged using the approved application form. For your convenience, you can download the application form here and can be made at any time and be submitted to The National Secretariat for processing. Send your completed application form with your tape and $30 application fee to The National Secretariat, National Speakers Assoc of NZ Inc, PO Box 47 736, Ponsonby, Auckland.

Certificates will be presented by Chapter Presidents at Chapter meetings.

Recipients of the ASM accreditation are entitled to use the letters ASM on their business stationery and marketing materials. They are also entitled to use the NSANZ logo on their materials.

ASM accreditation must be renewed every five years.

APS - Accredited Professional Speaker, Application Conditions

  • Must have been a member of NSANZ for at least 12 months prior to application;
  • Must have attended at least three Chapter meetings in the 12 months prior to application either as a member or visitor;
  • Must have made at least 25 presentations to at least 5 different clients in the two years prior to application;
  • Must have earned a minimum of $20,000 in speaking fees in each of the two years prior to application;
  • Must provide testimonial letters on client letterhead for 15 of the 25 presentations
  • Must have attended an NSANZ National Convention in the three years prior to application;
  • Not more than 30% of the 25 presentations may be as a Master of Ceremonies
  • An application fee of $250 must accompany the application

Once approved, Chapter Presidents will announce attainment of the accreditation level at a Chapter Meeting.

Certificates will be presented at meetings, or at designated events throughout the year.

If a recipient is unable to attend the next convention, the certificate will be presented to a person who holds either APS or CSP accreditation whom the recipient nominates.

Recipients of the APS accreditation are entitled to use the letters APS as well as the NSANZ logo on all their stationery and marketing materials.

APS accreditation must be renewed every seven years.

CSP - Certified Speaking Professional, Application Conditions

Certified Speaking Professionals (CSP's) are individuals who have proven, extensive experience as a professional speaker.

The development of a successful professional speaking career takes significant time, effort and commitment. That is why NSANZ developed the accreditation programme to recognise speakers who have made this kind of commitment to their careers. If you are one of those individuals, please take the opportunity to read the following and submit your application for the coveted CPS designation.

Requirements and Guidelines

Must have been a member of NSANZ for a period of two continuous years prior to application;

Must have attended at least three NSANZ Chapter meetings in each of the two years prior to application;

Prior to application, must have attended as a full-time participant, at least two national conventions of NSANZ, within the past three years. Equivalent attendance at conventions of any International Federation of Professional Speakers Associations may be cross-credited, if attendance can be proved;

Annual income from speaking fees in five years of the seven years prior to application must be at least NZ$50,000;

Within the 7 year period prior to application, must have made at least 250 presentations in any 5 of the 7 years (i.e., an average of 50 clients per year). Each of the presentations must meet the criteria of professional speaking as laid down by the Board. All presentations must be fee paid;

At least 100 of the 250 presentations must have been made for different clients;

At least 20 out of the 250 presentations must have been made for different clients in each 12 month period of the five years;

Provide a testimonial on client letterhead for 20 of the 250 presentations. (Photocopies are acceptable.) Testimonials must come from the client. Testimonials from third parties may be considered in exceptional circumstances;

Provide full documentary evidence of each of the 250 presentations including fee received and contact details of client for verification by an external auditor;

Presentations must be submitted on the required form and be in historical sequence. No other documentation other than the required documentation will be considered for the application;

On the supporting forms is a column entitled "Repeat Client". A check mark should be placed in this column whenever the client has been previously listed on the supporting form.

Must have demonstrated a clear understanding of the NZANZ Code of Professional Conduct;

Not more that 30% of the 250 presentations may be as a Master of Ceremonies;

An application fee of AUD$605.00 must accompany the application, as the audit process, to comply with IFPS standards, is done from Australia.

The Accreditation & Awards Board will review and verify the information provided on your application. If your application is successful, you will be notified by mail and your certificate will be presented by the President at the next annual Convention.
