Our Origins

The first meeting of NSANZ was held in 1994.

The set-up of the organisation was greatly assisted by our Trans-Tasman cousins across the 'ditch' in Australia - the National Speakers Association of Australia (NSAA). The Australian association in turn had been modeled upon and assisted by the more mature U.S. counterpart, the National Speakers Association. Both NSANZ and NSAA now enjoy a close relationship with the American association, as do affiliated bodies in Canada, England and Europe.

Although there are a number of groups who promote excellence in speaking, the various National Speaker groups around the world are the only bodies to represent members of the professional speaking industry.

We exist to develop, promote and uphold the highest possible standards of the profession for the benefit of both its members and the public we serve. Any person who has an interest in the speaking industry, whether speaker or supplier, seasoned professional or raw recruit is eligible to apply for membership.

Many of our members have learnt their craft in wonderful organisations such as Toastmasters, and many continue to enjoy membership with them. NSANZ serves a very different purpose - to help you turn your speaking skills into a business.
